You have to destroy the spawners as soon as possible, if you don't they will fill the board up with licorice and there is jelly under them too.

Try to make sure every move hits at least one of the spawners and better still if you can make combos to hit more than one with the same move. Wrapped candies are always best for clearing licorice and they will also have the added benefit of hitting the spawners twice.
Use any special candies quickly, especially if they are on the conveyor as they will be covered by licorice and lost.
If you can keep track of the number of moves after the spawners produce licorice you can risk leaving special candies on the conveyor if you know you have one or two moves until the next spawning.
The spawners produce licorice every third move, but you can delay this by hitting them. Each time you hit a spawner it will not spawn for one more move.
